My review
House M.D
(2004 – on going)

House M.D (also known simply as House) is a popular TV show, created by David Shore, about a controversial yet genius doctor and his team of doctors as they come across peculiar medical cases that aren’t easily diagnosed. Each episode centres on a patient and the team’s struggle to find what illness ails him or her, and, if they can, cure it.

British actor Hugh Laurie stars as the irreverent Dr. Gregory House, excellent diagnostician, who has limp due to an accident, is Vicodin addicted and whose motto is “everybody lies”. His team consists of Dr. Foreman (Omar Epps), Dr. Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) and Dr. Chase (Jesse Spencer), each specialized in different areas of medicine practice. Along with Dr. Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), House’s best friend, and Dr. Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), House’s boss, they give life to this fantastic medical show that has captivated so many fans.

Laurie’s performance really stands above all rest. Being British, Laurie has to fake American accent throughout the show (upon the casting, the director believed he was American) and he does it surprisingly well. House’s clever one-liners and witty comebacks couldn’t be better played and his whole unique behaviour is very well portrayed. The supporting cast, each with very distinctive personalities and different relationships with House, are too well played, their views and opinions clashing with House’s unique thinking.

Shore’s writing is the “soul” of this show. Moral or politically incorrect speeches stay in your mind as you hear them, making you think that maybe whatever nonsense you’ve just heard actually makes sense in society nowadays. Mixing this with humorous talk and loads of medical terms that without subtitles you couldn’t really understand, you have an Emmy award winner TV show script.

Overall, a must-see. If you like medical shows, then you won’t be disappointed with this. Even if you don’t like this kind of shows, it’s worth seeing. If not just to get a laugh at Dr. House’s insults. Definitely one of the best TV shows created recently.
